HOKITIKA. 5th September.

Mr. John White, late M.H.R. and member of the Provincial Council, Hokitika, died last night from asthma, after six weeks' illness.

The following telegram has been received from the principal light-keeper at Manukau Heads, and forwarded to us for publication by the Secretary of Customs :— " Picked up under South Head two pieces planking, 9 feet long, 7 by 4 inch, being burnt nearly through, a spar,' jibbootn and flying-jibboom in one, 49 feet long, heel of mast Durnt within two feet of head, and other burnt timber, all American pine."
