r » j There was very little excitement to-day over the election of a Mayor for this city. I A few cabs might be seen adorned with j pressing invitations to the electors to "vote for Gisborne" or his opponent, and various attractive placards figured on the walls and fences. Still on the whole, the election 1 passed off very tamely. Shortly after the close of the poll the respective numbers were declared by the Returning Officer to be :—: — Te Aro. Thorndon. Lambton Hutchison... 329 124 205 Gisborne ... 191 175 220 Majority for Hutchison 72
