THE MID-CANTER-BURY SEAT
WON FOR NATIONALISTS
MR A. N. GRIGG'S MAJORITY
INCREASED
At the preliminary count of votes for the Mid-Canterbury seat, Mr A. N. Grigg, the Nationalist candidate, was leading Mr H. E. Herring, the
Labour member, by 48 votes. Since then the recount and official scrutiny
of the ballot papers had been mace and 781 postal and absentee votes counted. The position now, with one postal vote to be dealt with, was that Mr Grigg had won the seat with aj margin of 75 votes, the totals being: Grigg ...... ............ 5504 Herring 5429 Majority 75 Informal 34. Of the votes by declaration, Mr Grigg secured 2 and Mr Herring 4; of the absentee votes 257 went to Mr Grigg, 263 to Mr Herring, and two were informal; while of the postals 119 were cast for Mr Grigg and 96 for Mr Herring.
