BYE-ELECTION

The Waitemata bye-election on July 19th resulted in Labour retaining the seat. The voting was as under — Mrs Dreaver (Labour) 4092 Darlow (Independent) 3690 Douglas (.Dem- Lab.) 909 Gardner (R.S.A. Ind ) 400 Head N.Z. Political U.) 74 Majority for Mrs ‘Dreaver 402 in 1938 the voting was WLyons (L) 7806, Close (N) 5345. There were 9165 votes this election and 13,151 in 1938.
