TAURANGA : A FATAL ACCIDENT.
Ox Tuesday, September 2, at about 9 o'clock in the morning, Mr. George Groen, of the Quarter acres, went to the buah at Oropi, to a rimu-tree, which had been felled three months before, but had lodged in the branches of an adjoining tree, but aubaeSaently had been blown down, and lay upon le stump with about 15ft. of the bottom part overhanging the stump. Mr. Green erected a stage to enable him to cross-cut the tree, which he did with the aid of his two boyi, Jemmy and George, to within an inch and a-half of the diameter of the treo, when they ceased, the boy George, about 10 years of age, running to an adjacent tree, in front of which ho utood. The tree parted, and in doing bo, struck the scaffolding, a portion of which flew up and struck George on the back, throwing him on his face to the ground. The father said his eyes grow dim at the sight of his son lying prostrate from such a blow, but when he had partially recovered he picked the boy up quite dead, and wont to some natives who assisted him to convey the body to the edge of the bush, and Mr. Hannou's coach passing by, conveyed the corpse to Te Papa.
