DEATH OF MAJOR SPEEDY.
We regret to record the removal by death of Major James Speedy, Resident Magistrate and Coroner for Wainkn and Manku, who expired at his residence, on the 6th instant, in the 56th year of bis age. The deceased gentleman had been ailing for florae time past, but his demise, webeliere may beaaid to have been precipitated in great meamire owing to an accident sustained op th« 4th Pecember la*t, of which we gare particulars at the time. It will be remembered that the gallant Major viaited Auckland at the commencement nf December, to take leave of bis son, Captain Speedy, under orders to proceed to Ahysfiinia. Upon his return to the Manku he ww thrown from his horse, and sustained » fracture of the collar-bone. The deceased had been a resident in the colony for thirteen yearn, most of which time has been spent at the Mauku, where he had gained for himfself tbe fullest esteem and respect of his neighbours, and admiration for the unswerving probity displayed in the administration of his judicial offices.
