It will be seen that Major Heaphy lias received the decoration of the victoria UroBS. The fact is announced in a paragraph taken by us from the Illustrated London News, and was gracefully alluded to by Sir George Grey, in his speech at the Nelson banquet. This circumstance will not lessen the gallant Major's claims upon the constituency of Parnell, where he is so well known, and for which, w"e understand, he will become a candidate should Mr. Whitaker, as rumoured, resign his seat. We may add, that Major Heaphy withdrew his claims upon the constituency, and supported Mr. Whitaker, when that gentleman was selected as the leader of the Auckland party. That he did so on that occasion, when he might have been returned, is greatly to his credit ; and unless a very much better candidate should come forward, we think the electors of Parnell would do well to return Major He»j>Jxy, /
