THE LOSS OF THE 'FIERY STAR.'
To the Editor of the Daily Southern Cro33. Sir, — Could you, or any of your readers, afford me any information about the fate of the passengers of the 'Fiery Star,' which left Queensland for Butaui some eight mouths back ? The ' Fiery Star' is supposed to have taken fire off the Auckland Islands. The writer had a brother, Daniel McKay, who took his passage for Britain in the 'Fieiybtar,' and he has never been heard of since by any of his friends Can the writer be informed it any of the passengers made their escape from the ship ? Any information will be thankfully received by a sister whose anxiety foi the fate of a dear brother is leaving her a prey to every imaginable thought.- Miss McKat, W. Porter's, Esq., Esk-street, Inveroargill, Southland. January 14, 1866. [The only one of the passengers of the ill-fated ' Fiery Star' who was brought to Auckland by the ' Dauntless' was Mr. John Ortnond, the remainder of those who stayed by the ship having been sailors, All the others left the vessel in the boats ; and we fear that the recent explorations of the Auckland Islands destroy the last hope that any of those reached land. In a Brisbane paper published on the d.\.j that the ' Fiery Sfcar' sailed from Queensland, •we find amongst the saloon passengers the nam e " Mr. D. McKay."— Ed. D.S.C.]
