OBITUARY

MR G. T. MULCOCK Mr George Thompson Mulcock, who died last week, was a member of an i old Flaxton family. Born in 1870,' he led an active life as a successful far. i mer; he was a member of local bodies, and was a keen sportsman. . t In 1896 Mr Mulcock started farming on his own account in South Canterbury about 20 miles inland from Waimate, and about 1903 saw three feel of snow which covered the ground for six weeks. In 1905 he purchased the Land’s End block of the Island Bay i Estate sub-division on Banks Benin, sula. While living in Wainui he, ‘served as a member on the Akaroa ' and Wainui Road Boards and on the: school and local committees. He waj . a member of the Wainui Defence Rifle Club in a year when the Wainui Club won the three Peninsula shields, j 1914 he retired to live near Christ- : church, where for about 10 years he was chairman of the Hals well County Council. Later, when residing in Fendalton, he was for some years a mem-. her of the Waimairi County Council,--Until about six months ago Mr Mulcock took an active part in farming activities and was a keen bowler. Re was a Justice of the Peace and a lay ' reader in the Anglican Church. In his young days Mr Mulcock; played Rugby football for the Kaiapoi Club .and had a medal presented , to all Kaiapoi players in a year whet the Kaiapoi Club won the Senior, Junior Flag, and President’s Cup’ grades in the Christchurch Rugby competitions. In 1897 he married Miss Violet An* son, who died six years ago. He is I survived by four brothers and four sisters, one son, eight daughters, and f 15 grandchildren. . : , MR J. S. MCGRATH ; (P.A.)
