NEW TRAWLING SYSTEM

HANANUI 11. FOR PORT CHALMERS

On her way to Port Chalmers to introduce the French trawl, the most modern and efficient system of netting fish, the trawler Hananui 11. arrived in Lyttelton early yesterday morning from Auckland. The captain of the trawler, Mr J. Black, some years ago introduced the Danish seine netting system at Lyttelton trawling in the Arewa, then owned by Mr G. A. Woods, now of Hokitika. The French trawl is a modification of the Danish seine and old auto trawl system. Formerly a whale chaser, the Hananui 11. was stationed in the Bay of Islands. She was then owned by Mr Jagger. She was sold later to Mr H. V. Morton and fished fox some time under contract to the Auckland Fisheries, and she now belongs to the National Mortgage and Agency Company, Ltd. She will probably continue to Port Chalmers to-day.
