—♦— RODING RIVER WATER SUPPLY SCHEME DECISION OP WAIMEA POWER BOARD (SPECIAL SO T»B I'KISS.) NELSON, August 15. The Waimea Electric Power Board to-day decided, subject to certain conditions, to meet the requirements of the Nelson City Council in regard to the proposed water supply scheme from the Roding river, over which the board holds water rights. The City Council wrote asking for an expression of the board's attitude toward the taking of five cusecs of water from the Roding river by the council, asking what claims there would be for compensation. On the motion of Mr S. O'Hara and Mr R. J. York, the following resolution was carried:—"That the board is quite willing to meet the requirements of the. Nelson City Council, subject to the council agreeing to extend the contract with the board regarding bulk supply for a further 12 months; also subject to agreements for a water supply to the Richmond, Stoke, and Tahunanui areas being completed with the local bodies concerned, the council to co-operate with the board in the event of a shortage of water by regulating the supply if necessary during the board's peak load requirements." The water supply question also came before a meeting of the Richmond Borough Council. The Mayor (Mr H. W. Kelly) said he felt sure the borough would congratulate the city on its decision to adopt the Roding river scheme (via Poorman's Valley), which would be capable of supplying the adjoining local bodies. "There can be no doubt that the people of Tahunanui, Stoke, and Richmond do require a supply of water, and are anxious to know the terms and conditions on which they can participate in the scheme," he said. Personal A large gathering of Stoke and Waimea fruit growers assembled at Mr M. Mason's packing shed at Stoke this morning, to bid farewell to Mr J. H. Parker, who has been manager of the Nelson branch of the New Zealand Fruit Growers' Federation for the last five years, and who has been appointed assistant-manager at the head office in Wellington.
