AMATEUR ATHLETICS.

CANTERBURY CENTRE EXECUTIVE/ A meeting oI the executive of the Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was held last evening, Mr E. H. Cross presiding. Others present were: Messrs R. Beattie. U. W. Bain, R. Hill, T. A. Grose, W. Flewellyn, M. Leadbetter, ana O. L. Austin (hon. secretary). . Further explanations were received from *. S Bull, of Waddington, regarding his running In a professional race at Oxford it was decided to forward his letter to the Jfew Zealand Council, earlier correspondence on the same point also having been forwarded. A recommendation that Bull be reinstated awu also be forwarded. A cecond application for reinstatement as an amateur following his participation in a professional event was received from W. l. Beswarick, of Timaru, and was accompanied by a letter of recommendation from the secretary of the Timaru- Methodist Harrier Club. The executive decided to ask Beswarick if he had taken part in any professional events since his last application for reinstatement, and to act on his reply. The application for reinstatement of V. it. Ayers, of Prebbleton< will be forwarded to the New Zeaalnd Council -with a favourable recommendation. The reinstatement form of V O'Grady was received from the Wellington Centre, with a request for approval. It was decided to make no recommendation. lhe Wellington Centre also forwarded the instatement form of James Hislop Parker, s former All Black, which it was decided to S " Aii 1 application was received from the Christcburch Methodist Harrier Club for affiliation with the Canterbury Centre, The application was forwarded to the Council with a favourable recommendation. Mr -C. S. Thomas wrote repeating Ins to-. auest that his resignation from the position of Centre starter be accepted, and the executne decided to accept it with regret. The Administrative Committee of tUe nev> Zealand Council forwarded the minutes of its last meeting, in which it wan stated that the Auckland Centre's nomination of August Jinn as the date for the New Zealand cross-country championship in Auckland bad been approved. Affiliation had been grunted the Otago University Harrier Club and tho Canterbury University Harrier Club, and the affiliations of the Rotherham Amateur bports Club, tiic Kaiapoi Amateur Sports Club, and the Kaiapoi Harrier Club had been cancelled. In tliu minutes of the monthly meeting of the Council. which were also forwarded, it was reported that L. W. Barwell, of Christchurcb, had been reinstated. An application frpm St. Paul s Harrier Club. Waimate, for a concession in the affiliation fees was received. It was decided to reply that there was no power under tho rule 3 to reduce the fees.
