THE FUNERAL. The funeral of the late Miss Marv Victoria Gibson was held vesterdav afternoon, leaving "Raugi-ruru,"' 59 Hewitt's road, Merivale, for the Waiinairi Cemetery. The unusually large attendance of representative citizens showed that the great work done by Miss Gibson during her lifetime of devoted service in the cause of education was appreciated by all sections of t~e community. Amongst the many members of the High School Old Girls' Association who attended were ex-pupils of varying ages, representative of each of the thirty years during which Miss Gibson held the position of Lady Principal of the High School. Archdeacon P. B. Haggitt conducted a short service at "Rangi-ruru" and also officiated at the graveside. The chief mourners were:—Dr. F. G. Gibson, Mr T. F. Gibson (brothers), Mrs F. AN APPRECIATION. Reference to the death of Miss Mary Victoria Gibson was made by Bishop West-Watson at the conference of Religious Education yesterday morning. Miss Gibson was, he said, for many years a devoted headmistress of the Girls' High School, and a member of the Church of England, for which she did g-eat work. At a gathering such as this it was right and proper to mention one who had rendered to the Church and to the Dominion such a great service. The Mayor (Mr J. K. Archer), who was present to extend a civic welcome tothe delegates, paid a tribrte to Miss Gibson on behalf of the citizens of Christchurch and himself. "We realise that Miss Gibson was not only a great educationist and a great church worker," he said, "but also a great citizen. The whole of Christchurch laments her unexpected death. We had hoped that she would be spared many years to enjoy a long retirement." The Conference honoured Miss Gibson 's memory by standing in silence for a few moments.
