AN APPRECIATION. Reference to the death of Miss Mary Victoria Gibson was made by Bishop West-Watson at the conference of Religious Education yesterday morning. Miss Gibson was, he said, for many years a devoted headmistress of the Girls' High School, and a member of the Church of England, for which she did g-eat work. At a gathering such as this it was right and proper to mention one who had rendered to the Church and to the Dominion such a great service. The Mayor (Mr J. K. Archer), who was present to extend a civic welcome tothe delegates, paid a tribrte to Miss Gibson on behalf of the citizens of Christchurch and himself. "We realise that Miss Gibson was not only a great educationist and a great church worker," he said, "but also a great citizen. The whole of Christchurch laments her unexpected death. We had hoped that she would be spared many years to enjoy a long retirement." The Conference honoured Miss Gibson 's memory by standing in silence for a few moments.
