FENDALTON ROADS
♦ LOAN POLL IN MAY. BIG PAVING PROGRAMME. T'ie poll on the proposal to borrow £29,475 for the reconstruction of roads in the Fendalton riding of the Waimairi county will be taken on May Bth, the date upon which the election of members to the council is to be held. The roads to be reconstructed are within an area bounded by Webb's road, Ilam road, Carleton road, Rieearton Borough, and Christchurch City, Clyde road, Idris road, Jeffreys road from Clyde road to Idris road, Straven road, and Fendalton road—a total of three miles—will be laid down in asphaltic concrete, with a surface coat 2iin thick, superimposed on a base", course. The following roads are to be given two coatings of bitumen at the start, a third one within 12 months, and possibly a fourth within five .years:— Bryndwr road, Bradnor road, Clyde road, Carreg road, Creyke road, Chileombe street, Desmond street, Elmwood road, Glandovey road, Gordon road, Helmore's road, Heathfield street, Harakeke st*eet, Hamilton street, Hinau road, Jackson's Jeffrey's road from Idris road to Wairarapa terrace, Kiwi road, Kaka street, Kotare street, Kahu road, Kauri street, Korari street, Lothian street, Mird street, Plylimon road, Poynder avenue, Park lane, Pu*iri street, Pukaki terrace, Queen's avenue, Rhodes street, Ruru road, Rochdale street, Stratford street, SnoWden street, Strowan road, Tui street, Taylor's road, Totare street, Wroxton terrace, Waiwet>; street, Weka street, Wairarapa terrace, Wai-iti street, and Montana avenue —a total of 11 miles. Holmwood, Fendalton, and Burnside roads, which are secondary highways, will be done in coniunction with the Highways Board, and the Board, it is hoped, will subsidise this part of the work on a two to one basis. The Council hopes to obtain a cheaper price by letting the work as a whole in one contract.
