The auction announcements of Lohrey and Co., Ltd. and. W. E. Rmesi and Co. appear on page 13 of this issue. The work of erecting conveniences in the quadrangle of the Provincial Council Chambers is still proceeding. Enquiries at the local Public Works' Office yesterday showed that there had been no instructions received to oease work. Mr H. T\ Armstrong, M.P., will address a public meeting this evening in St. Saviour's Hall, Queen street, Sydenham, prior to leaving for the North Island on a lengthy organising tour on behalf of the New Zealand Labour Party.

W. R. A Rotary Club has been formed in Now Plymouth.

The Heathcote County Council will take a poll to-day on a proposal to borrow £4OOO for the erection and furnishing of a hail at Cashmere. A three-fifths majority is required to carry the poll. The Malvern Tramway Band, which is on its way from Melbourne to the Auckland Contest, will reach Christchurch to-morrow evening. The local bands are arranging a suitable reception to the visitors.

Two jurors wero exempted from service at the criminal sitting of the Supreme Court yesterday. The first, a farmer, was excused on the ground that he was engaged in getting in his harvest, and the othor, a tramway employee was exempted when ho explained to his Honour that he received no Saturday afternoon oif, had to work on alternate Sundays, and was at the present time away from duty on holiday. Yesterday morning Captain L. M. Isitt directed the shooting operations, of the 10th Pack Battery at present in camp at Kowhai Bush, from tho air, using part of a ground wireless set amongst his apparatus. The set being used is more or less incomplete, but the operations wero carried out quite successfully. It is hoped to socure a proper set next year. The second section of the annual refresher course will commence at the aerodrome today. Reports are to hand that deer in Ihe forests under the control of the Otago Acclimatisation Society are in fine condition this season. During tho past few years tho Society has systematically culled these herds, having cub out over 2000 deer within two years, and this thinning out is evidently having a good effect. The exhibition of heads at Wembley has apparently fired the sporting instincts of people at Homo, for Lord Bclper and party, of London, are arriving shortly to try their luck with the gun. Other overseas visitors havo also secured shooting blocks. A3 a result of tho letting of contracts for rural deliveries in tho Ashhurton district, the following Post Offices will be closed: —Barrhill, Anama, Ruapuna, Lismore, Mataipuke, Maronan, Lowcliffe, Lynnford, Eiffelton, Willowby, Wakanui, Elgin, Seafield, Seaview, Riverside and Newlands. Sw<boda, who escaped with another ringleader, Roth, on tho morning after the crime, returnod to visit his Barents, and was promptly arrested. Details of the death of LanceCorporal Cromar show that attacked by a dozen German civilians and shot through the heart before assistance could he given him. In ((onnexion with the sugstystion that the Canterbury Progress League should organise a party to pay a visit to the Waimakariri glacial region at Easter, the organiser of t|he League, stated to a "Press" reporter_ yesterday that it was proposed to invite all interested, in an inspection to meet him at ftll early date to discuss details. Tho arrangement will be that all those who take nart will share the expenses of the trip. The League hopes to go into its new offices in the Chamber of Commerce building next week, and the meeting of those interested in the inspection will probably take place there.
