THE COMING CONTEST. MR J. A. FLESHER TO STAND. For the Mayoral contest next April three candidates aro in tho field—the present Mayor (Mr J. A. Flesher), Cr. J.-TV. Boanland, who was defeated for the office by Dr. Thacker four years ago, and Dr. Thackcr. Mr Flcshor expects to'carry the official support of the Christchurch Citizens' Association, Mr Beanland, who is also a leading niem"ber of the Association, claims that ho is entitled to the official support, but will contest the election whether lie gets it or not. I am not satisfied with the prosent financial position of the cityjuid I want to see tho finances put oil a footing which will make for the utmost economy and efficiency in tho conduct of the business of the city. "I want to see the whole administration of the city improved." Mr Fleshcr added that before over he first became Mayor, lie had consistently advocated that tlie offioo should bo held for a longer period than two years.
