OBITUARY.

Mil G. A. MACKAY. Mi' G. A. MacKay died yesterday at his residence, 171 tfeaton street, St. Albans. Mr . MacKay, who was bo vears of age, was for many years the manager of the Christchurch branch of ■ the" Bank of New -South -Wales, and it was only recently that he retired. He had been connected with the bank for nearly thirty years, and was- held in the highest esteem in business circles in the city. A resolution of sympathy and condolence with the widow of the late Mr MacKay was passed at last night's meeting of the Council of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce.

MR JOHN DUNCAN. ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) BLENHEIM, February 4. Thb death occurretT on Saturday night at Picton of Mr John Duncan, aged seventv-six years. Mr Duncan, who was at "one time a member of tbe House of Representatives for Wairau, was tfie eldest son of tire lato Mr A. S. Duncan, one of the pioneer . sawmillers of Marlborough. The late Mr John 'Duncan settled at Grove, Marlborough Sounds, in 1851,. where his father had introduced the first steam sawrmlling plant in the province. After his father's death, Mr John Duncan took up sheepfa.-ming. He held many public positions until advancing years caused his retirement. He was a member of the Pelorus Roati Board, the Marlborough Land and Railway League, and also president of the Captain Cook Memorial Committee. He was an ardent educationist, and for some time chairman of the Marlborough Education Board, and one of the original governors of Marlborough College. He won the Wairau seat in 1908, but in 1911 Mr R. McCallum defeated him on the second ballot.

The late Mr Duncan was twice married. His first wife was Miss Speed, a member of a well-known Marlborough family. She died eight or nine years ago, and about three vears ago Mr Durican married Miss Beauchamp, of Anikiwa, who survives him. There is no family. Mr Duncan 'has three sisters —Mrs Duncaii Smith and Mrs Hazlett, of Marlborough, ' and Mrs Ensor, wife of Archdeacon Elisor, of Christchurch —and two brothers, Messrs Alex, and William Duncan, both of -whom reside in the North Island.
