UNVEILING; OP WAR MEMORIAL. The unveiling of-the New Brighton Surf Club Memorial Window took yesterday afternoon. The window, which is" in stained glass and in appropriate handsome design is erected in the eastern wail of the pavilion and bears the. following names of members who died : while. fighting in the Great War:,W. E. Cookson, J. Stirling, C. F. Humphries, E. J. Rhind, D. P. jttcFarlane, J. Head, X>. J. Wbitcombe, H. 11. Brittan, J). G. Napier, L...D. Moyincent, L. S. ■ Sapsford, W. Cochrane' V. P."Hopkins, A. L. McFarlane, E..T. Harper, E. Fraser, and H. Wotton. : \ ' "

There was a large attendance of relatives arid friends, many being unable to find accommodation.. „ The club's president, Mr F. KibWewhite presided, and amongst. .others, present there were the Mayor, Mr J. Gamble, Councillors W. Gahagan, J. Shaw, J. Scott and C. >Coor>er, club captain; Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.F., Mr A. W. Owles, Mr George Harper, and many members of the club. The memorial was umjeiled by Mr Kibblewhite who, during the course of a short address, stated that in all 121 members of the club went away to the front in that glorious New Zealand division. Seventeen of these had made the great sacrifice, and their name 6 were revered. Deepest sympathy was felt for the m6thers and fathers.

Mr Gamble said, in referring to the Memorial that they did these things "Lest they.'i'orgot." Jtie congratulated the .club upon the consummation of its enterprise. He .trusted that nothing would happen to destroy this beautiful memorial, which would evnr speak to menvblrs of the sacrifice made by their comrades. Mr Sullivan, who added his tribute, said that those Anzac spirits who had sacrificed"' nil would live in the hearts of the whole, community. Everyone was agreed that these youn; men who had made the supreme sacrifice, had assisted in "placing New Zealand amongst the nations of.the earth. He congratulated the members of the club in having erected to thp memory of those who had fallen the beautiful memorial window.
