BURWOOD BURGESSES' ASSOCIATION. TL© monthly meeting of the Burwood Burgesses' Association waa held on Tuesday, Mr S. C. Thompson presiding. Vaiioua matters of interest to the district wero brought forward. It was reeolved to aek tho Waimoiri County Council to ereot same plates on etrcets, also to supply a lamp at Qneen street tram stop. A motion wns carried aslcing the Council to re-nanm River road "Locksley avenue," as thore are several River roads round Chnfitcliurch. It was agreed to aek iho Tramway Board to improve tho lay-out at tho vicarage corner. SUMNER SCHOOL COMMITTEE. Tho Sumner School Committee met last night. Present—Mr D. Lumsdon (chairman). Mesdames Fountain, Barber, W. G. Roberta, H. Buttle, Messrs C. Benjamin, G. Nowman, J. Brown, G. Alexander, and W. J. Lawson. It was agreed to writ© to tho Mayor ! of the borough, expressing the committee's appreciation of tho manner in which the recant ©pidemio waa successfully fought by volunteer workers. The chairman explained that tho Education Department had refused to condemn the old infant room and proposed to build a new infant school of two rooms. It was decided to protest against the departments action and to write Messrs W. A. Banks, W, P. Spencer, and J. Jamieeon to meet the committee and go thoroughly into the whole matter. It was decided to invite tenders for the removal of the front fence and the erection of a new one. The reopening of the school was fixed for February 3rd and tlie question of prizes was left over in the meantime. The head teacher's report stated that during the recent epidemic all i tho teachers had done excellent work.: " The school roll was 327 with an average attendance of 257. • Owing to-the increase in tho attendance the school had b"en raieod to Grade 5. A soeciftl vote c£ thanks waa accorded to Mrs Rockett for her services a* relieving teacher. Tho meeting carried a resolution of sympathy with Mr and Mrs W. H. Clark and family in their recent bereavement. HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY. At ai- meeting of the Sumner-Rodclifts Horticultural Society Mr A. C; Wilson (in _ the unavoidable absence .of'the Mayor) presided over the following; attendance:—Meesm T. E., Whitfield, C. T. Middleton. A. R. Piercy,; W. J.*Laweon, C. Benjamin, G. F. Allen, and H. C. Jamiesott. A'letter was received from Mr H. Buttle, eirrr., stating that owing to pressure of present engagements, ho regretted that he could not accept tho position of secretary. Tho meeting unanimously agreed to aek Mr G. A. Alexander to cocfient to election. Tho rules and by-laws of the Sooiety wer e adopted. It waa decided to hold tho first show at Sumner about the end of March. The annual subscription was fixed at us, members' exhibits to be free.
