OBITUARY.
tt MR ANDREW LOUGHREY
Mr Andrew Loughrey, whose death occurred.on , Wednesday, was a wellknown barrister and solicitor, having practised in Christchu rch for a . numbpr of years past. The late- -Mr Loughrey ■ was born in Melbourne, and educated for tho Bar. He gained his law degree at the Melbourne- University-College, an d became'a barrister and solicitor of tho Supreme Court of Victoria. Ho turned his uttention to educational matters, and for some years held tho position of Inspector of Schools, under tho Victorian "Education Department. Ho came to Christchurch in ISBO, and entered into partnership with the late Mr John Holmes, who was subsequently elected a member of the House of Representatives. The firm of Holmes and Loughrey continued for ten years, when Mr B. L. Lane, another wellknown local barrister, was admittea a partner, and the practieo was carried on as Loughrey and Lane for many years. Subsequently the partnership was dissolved, and Mr Loughrey conducted a practice on his own account. The late Mr Loughrey always took a keen interest in politics, and in 1887 he wns elected for the Linwood $gat in tho House of Representatives as a supporter of the Stout-Vogel Government, and served as a member of tho House for three years. Hβ was also an enthusiastic volunteer, and at the time of the Russian scare he was inetrumental in promoting the formation of tho Canterbury Irish Rifles, of wTiich corps ho was captain until its'disbandment some years later. The interment, which was private, took place at Riccarton Churchyard yesterday.
An old settler, of Canterbury, Mrs David Round, has died at Prebbloton. She was born at Ashford, Kent, on November 13th. 1525, and settled at Prebbloton with her father, Mr Jas. Prebblo, who gave the name to Prel>bleton in 1855. She leaves two daughters. Mrs J. East, of Probbloton, and Mrs J. Rowley, of Durham street.
