OBITUARY.

MR WILLIAM BRIOE. (rKESS ASSOCIATION TELEGItIM.) DUNEDIN, December 23. Mr William Brico, widower, of tlio Christchurch firm of W. Brioe and Son, aged 74. died suddenly at Mornington last night, while sitting in a chair. Death was apparently duo to heart disease. iTo had como d9wn from Christehureh on a visit to his son. Mr William Brice was an old resident of Christchurch whoso placo of business nt one time was at the corner of Colorr-bo and Hereford streets which has !>een known for years as Brico's corner. Mr Brico was born in Somersetshire, England, in 1839, and was educated at Taunton, where he was brought tip as a hairdresser and fancy goods dealer. Ho arrived in Lyttclton by the chip Zealandia, and began business in HoblA's Buildings. Colombo street, •where he remained, till 1870, when he removed his business to the corner of Colombo and Hereford streets. Mr Brice was a member of the City Council for two terms of three- years each and represented the then South-West ward. Mr Brico. in addition to his intcrpst in public affairs, was also interested in sporting. At the- meeting of the City Council last night Cr. Cooper referred to the death of Mr Brice, and on his motion, seconded by Cr. Otley. it was derided to send a letter of condolence to the family of ex-Councillor Brice.
