THE APPRECIATION OF ART IN NEW ZEALAND.
(SPECUIi TO "TIU. PRESS.") WELLINGTON, June 10. Mr A. A. Longden, who is returning to England, is very well satisfied with tho saioa of pictures at the late International Exhibition. Tho sales have exceeded £15,000, or more than double the figures recorded at tihe St. Louis Exposition. Air Longden says tho people of New ' Zealand have learned to appreciate pictures since the British collection came to this country, and this will benefit local artists. To support this statement ho mentions that the -sales at the Canterbury Art Society's present annual exhibition are moro numerous tihan usual, and the pricos have improved.
