THE MAYORAL ELECTIONS.
0. Tho nomination of Mr H. F. Wigmm as Mayor of Christchurch was received by the Returning Officer yesterday, Mr Wigram's nominators are Messrs W. Recce and 0. M. Gray. The candidates nominated at Kaiapoi yesterday for office of Mayor vere Mr J. I)aly (present Mayor) and Cr. A. Pearce, who has not hitherto held the- office, though for some time a Councillor. For the Mayoralty of Rangiora Mr J. S&nsoni has been asked to take office another year, and failing his consent, a requisition to Mr James Oarmichael, a Councillor, will bo put in circulation. It- is stated that Mr C W. Bell, also a Councillor, is a probable candidate. The Mayoralty of Timaru is just now exciting no little interest in that town. On Wednesday Mr James Cnaigie gave his consent to be nominated as a candidate for the. position, after being waited upon by an influential deputation. Mr John Hole, a late 'Mayor, has also been asked to stand, and Councillor T. Hawkey has signified his intention of contesting ths seat. A Napier message states that- Mr F. W. Williams. Chairman of the Harbour Board, is announced for the Mayoralty, and Mr H. P. Cohen retires in his favour.
