LAWN TENNIS.
During t&e early part of last week the first round of the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Club's Championship was piayted, and on Saturday the second round was concluded, The results of the games played are:— First round—Aitken beat Jackson, 6-4, 64, 6-4; Fieber beat Nunneley, 6-3, 6-3, 6-1; Collins bad a bye from Ross. Second, round—Sinclair beat Laurie. 2-6, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4. 10-8: Kiver beat McLeod, 6-3, 6-3, 7-5; A. Wilding beat Borrows, 6-1,. 6-4, 6-2; Aitken beat Gose 6-3, 6-1, 4-6, 3-6, 6-2; Fisher beat Collins, 6-2, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5; Vincent had a bye from Weston; Williams a bye from Seager, and Harman also had a bye. The draw for the third round is:— Eaver plays Wilding* Vincent plars Aitken Fisher plays Sinclair, and Williams plays Harmanf On Saturday afternooa th« Lyttelton Lawn Tennis Club opened the season witJi an attendance of about sixty members and visitors. Jlr N.. C. Schumacher, the presidenfc. at the close of a fcrief address, congratulatiiig the club on its satisfactory position, declared the courts open for play. A number of scratch games were played, and the ladies dispensed afternoon tea.
