MR f. E. TAYLOR NOT TO BE A CANDIDATE. Finding it impossible to make the business arrai-gements that he considers would he nEcessary to enable him to give his time and attention to pontics, Mr T. E. Taylor has definitely dtoidtd not to be a candidate at the "forthcoming bye-election. This decision, Mr Tavlor informed-a representative of "The Press" yesterday, is final. Mr G. J. Smith," who, it was undei-stood, would bsi a candi-date if Mr T. K. Taylor did not stand, has not, as yet, corns to j a deci-vpn on the matter. J Tha Registrar of Electors does not intend reprinting the whole of the City of Chrwtchurch roll, but the names of those j electors who have enrolled will be printed j in a supplementary roll. After last general election about 4000 names of non-voters were struck off th« roll, and up to date over j 200 of these have applied to have their I names placed on the roll. Those whose names were Ftnick off received notification thereof last year. In March, 1900 r - a new j roll, comprising the names of those who | voted at thc last ■ general election w_is printed, and; those persons whos*e names appear therein are .-properly enrolled and j capable of voting at the bye-election. j THE'LABOUR REPRESENTATIVE, j A speoial meeting of the Canterbury Trades and Labour Council'-was-held last night, ths president, Mr J. A. McCuUongh presiding, for the purpose of receiving the j ballot papers for the Selection of a Labour I candidate to stand at the forthcoming election. The result of the ballot was decidedly in favour of Mr Charles Taylor, who, J in a spe-ech, returned thanks for tbe vote-of. renewed confidance in.him. A meeting of Mr Taylor's friends and supporters is to be hel don in the Trades Hall.
