THE BYE-ELECTION.
MR T. E. TAYLOR ASKED TO BECOME A CANDIDATE.
In response to the advertised invitation, the Congregational Schoolroom was filled last evening oy the political friends f*nd supporters of Messra J. Smith and T. E. Taylor. Mr W. MiiUar was voted to the chair. Mr G. J. Smith announced that he had decided not to contest the present bye-election. After Boms discussion, the following resolution was passed unanimously :-— "That this meeting requests Mr T. K. Taylor to contest the forthcoming bye-election, and pledgee itself to do all in its power to secure his return." Mr Taylor promised to give a definite answer in Thursday morning's paper*, and the meeting than adjourned until Thu: evening.
