NEW ZEALAND CRICKET COUNCIL.

The New Zealand Cricket Council met at the Alliance Assurance Company's office yesterday afternoon. Present—Messrs H. D. Carter (Chairman), J. H. Wood, T. D. Harman, J. U. Collins, A. Fairbairn, W. H. Wanklyn and C. R. Smith (Hon. See.). The Auckland Association wrote saying they had no objection to the North v South Island match, provided the matches were held at the four chief centres alternately, the expenses being borne by the Cricket Council. The Otago Association wrote that though they did not favour the match they would do their best to get their .Union players away should the match be played. Mr Smith read a letter from Australia, saying there was no possibility of Stoddart's team paying New Zealand a visit. The team would return the way they .came, and would probably visit West Australia on their way back; Mr Smith said he hod received a private letter from Mr Charlton, with reference-to a visisf to New Zealand from an Australian team, composed of such men as Mose3, Iredale, Garrett, &c. Nothing definite bad been arranged, but if. the team did come over it would be advisable to abandon the idea of a North v South Island match. Mr Smith resigned his position as Secretary to the Council, owing to his leaving Christchurch. He said that, as Mr Cuff, who had been suggested as his successor, would be in Christchurch in about a fortnight, the election had better be deferred. This was agreed to, and Mr T. 1). Harman was appointed Secretary jpro tern. On the motion of Mr Fairbairn, seconded by Mr Harman, Mr C. R. Smith's resignation was received with regret, and a hearty vote of thanks was passed to him for the incalculable amount of work he had done tor the Council, *

A match was played at Glentunnel on Saturday between the local Club and Hororata, the visitors winning by 8 runs. For the winners, E, Percy bowling and Barrett and A. Thorne batting best; for the local team, R. Leeming, H. Smith bowling, G. Ironsides, Leeming and Smith batting best.
