THE WELLINGTON SUBURBS ELECTION.
(press association telegram.) Wellington, April 23. The Suburbs election to-day created considerable interest. Both sides worked with vigour. At each booth a number of ladies were present, and took prominent part in . canvassing. Shortly before nine the result was announced, Wilson defeating Atkinson by a majority of 139. At Petone, Lower Hutt, Ngahauranga, Kai warawara, Tinakori Road, Mitchelltown, and Kilbirnie Wilson received a substantial majority, while at Khandallah, Ohira, Karori, Newtown, and Ohariu Atkinson scored, Wadestown, Makara, and Island Bay were practically even. The total, result is : — C. Wilson (Government) ~, ...2036 A. R. Atkinson 1897 Mr Wilson was heartily congratulated and played into town from Petone by a band. At the last election the majority of Mr Wilford, who was subsequently disqualified, was 252.
