LINWOOD TOWN BOARD.

• - An ordinary meeting of the Linwood Town Board was held on Monday evening last, at 7.30 pan. Present—Messrs Glen, Barns, Atkinson, Bergh, Hale, and Goodman. An apology was received for the absence of Mr Toomer. Mr B. P. Glen was voted to the chair. Correspondence waa read:—From Mr Bobt. Davis, re destruction of one of his houses by fire, and asking for a reduction in the valuation of the property. To be informed that the matter will receive attention in due course. Mr A. F. Toomer, complaining of neglect on the part of the scavenger. The Clerk to inform the contractor theresf. Drainage Board Works Committee, appointing time for meeting this Board's Committee to confer re Tuam street drain. Besolved—That the Clerk be instructed to write the Drainage Board, and express this Board's surprise that no report has been received from the Drainage Beard as to the inspection by the Drainage Board's Works Committee of the Tuam street drain, and to request that a report be forwarded at once as to the steps proposed to be taken by the Drainage Board 1 to abate the nuisance now existing in the drain. Mr J. T. Bell, offering sites for offices: Received. The Works Committee reported that the portion t . of "Gloucester street opposite Mr Badger's has been reduced to its permanent level, and recommended that the roid be metalled as early

as possible as part of the road lies on sand coated with clay, and in places the sand is coming through. The report was adopted. The Lighting Committee reported that the site of the proposed new lamp, asked for by Mr Price, has been visited, but that the Committee could not recommend the erection of any new lamps at present. The report was adopted. The Committee appointed on that behalf reported that arrangements had been made to rent the Ferry road pound from the Heathcote Boad Board for one year at a rental of £15, on condition that the poundkeeper keeps the roads of that district free from stray cattle; that the assumption of the control and management of the pound by this Board had been publicly notified; that the late poundkeeper had been authorised to act until further notice, and that a poundkeeper's book has been ordered, and the Committee recommended that the appointment of a poundkeeper should receive immediate consideration, and that the times for holding pound Bales should be fixed in accordance with the act. Mr Perkins, the acting poundkeeper, interviewed the Board, and asked to be re-appointed poundkeeper, offering £8 per annum rent. Resolved— that Mr Perkins be requested to place an offer as to his tenancy of the Linwood pound in writing before this Board prior to the next meeting, and that during the interim he be appointed te carry on the duties of Poundkeeper as heretofore, until Tuesday, 10th March next. ißesolved — That the Committee, consisting of Messrs Toomer, Hales, and Glen, be empowered to receive Mr Perkins* tender for the pound, and to act in the matter at once, and see that the arrangements provided for in the Act are carried out in their legal entirety. Resolved— That it be publicly notified that pound sales will be held at the Linwood Pound, Ferry road, at the hour o! noon, on the first and third Thursdays in every month, the first of such sales to be held on the sth I March, 1885. The Committee appointed to consider the oftVra of sites for offices, reported that the quarter-acre section at the corner of Worcester street and Stanmore road is considered the moßt suitable,being central and on the route of the proposed new tramway. Resolved that Mr Hulbert's section be purchased by the Board as a site for offices, and that the Select Committee be authorised to arrange for the purchase. The Clerk reported receipts since last meeting £50 17s 7d;. credit balance, at Bank, £72 2s 2d. A statement re the proposed loan for concrete channelling was made on behalf of the Select Committee. Besolved that the question of the proposed loan be referred back to the Select Committee to report at next meeting. Mr T. Atkinson then handed in his resignation as a Commissioner, he being about to proceed to Auckland. Besolved that the resignation of Mr T. Atkinson be accepted with regret.
