LAND SALES.
Messrs H. Matson and Co. held yesterday a moat successful land sale. The land put op comprised the Linwood Estate, the property of P. H. Britten, Esq., which had been subdivided into 22+ sections. It is situated beyond the Stsnmore road, at a distance of about a'xnile from the centre of Christchnreh, and in order to enable the purchasers to have ready means of access to it some additional land had been purchased, the surplus of which, not required for the road, had been subdivided into ■even additional sections. The total number of sections, therefore, was 231, and of these 230 were ■old, the odd one being set aside a> a reserve. The area sold was 58 acres, which realised an average price of £318 15s 6d per acre, or a total of £l«, 480 10s. Of this amount £1120 was for the land not, strictly spetki&g, belonging to the Linwood Estate, lea-ring as the net price of this £17,369 10s. It is worth of remark that Mr Brittan some time ago offered to sell the estate, for the purpose of its being converted into a public park, for £10,000.
