This process renders the colors permanent and imparts a beautiful soft ivory-like appearance to the picture. Especially adapted for miniatures. Aβ it seems to be coming into fashion to publish the method of producing certain kinds of pictures, I beg to submit the following formula for producing the Crematype or Thermo- Photograph :— " Take the picture when mounted and dip it into alcohol (methylated spirit will do equally as well), and when it is well situated place it aa quickly as possible in front of a clear fire about a quarter of an inch distant, when a most brilliant effect will be produced in a few seconds. By placing it nearer the result will be sooner attained." There is great warmth of tone about these pictures, the high lights being particularly tine, combining great transparency in the shadows. If the directions are faithfully carried out, the portrait will have a most finished appearance. CHARLES LAWRENCE, 8-19 9792 High street, Christchurch. HE LATE FIRE—H.
