CORNWALL PARK

DRIVE TO BE REOPENED USE EARLY IN NEW YEAR Work on the restoration of Cornwall Park after three years' occupation by the Army is in hand, and it is expected that the area will be thrown open to the public early in the New Year. A statement to this effect was made to-day by "Sir James Gunson, chairman of the board of park trustees, when commenting on a complaint that the driveway through the park was si.il] padlocked, though pedestrians were admitted. The restoration work involved was considerable and the trustees had not delayed in taking action, added Sir James. The job of restoring the south-western area of the park had been in hand for some months and was now nearing completion. This included the repairing of damage to the kiosk caused by larrikinism. It was hoped that the drive through from Green Lane Road to Campbell Road and a supplementary road to Rawhiti Road would be opened in the near future. There was a vast difference between occasional pedestrian traffic and the heavy 'vehicular traffic that would use the drive.
