FAMOUS JOCKEY DEAD LONDON, March 23. The death is announced of the former champion jockey, Steve Donoghue, at the age of 60. He died suddenly of heart failure. Donoghue consulted a doctor regarding his heart last Tuesday, and was to have entered a London nursing home to-day for several weeks' complete rest. He suffered a heart attack early this morning from which he died in a few minutes. Steve Donoghue rode the record number of six Derby winners. He won the Derby for three successive years—on Humorist, Captain Cuttle and Papyrus— a thing which had never happened before in the history of the English turf. After a lapse of a year he won again on Manna, this being his sixth time, for he piloted Pommern to victory in 1915 and Gay Crusader in 1917. For years he led the list of winning jockeys and became an idol with racegoers.
