' Mr. Snodgrass had eupper with tlie master, Captain Hay, and returned to hie cabin fairly early.

In the morning Mr. Snodgrass wae found to be niksing. His clothes and effects were in the cabin.

The Hon. William Wallace Snodgraes was born in Liverpool in 1870, and arrived in Xew Zealand ae a boy of 10. He ' was a well-know u nierckant in Xekon, and served on the City Council for three years, later being Mayor from 1917 to 1921. He was also for some time on the Neleon Harbour Board, and was a member of the War Fuads Council throughout it* existence. In addition he •nerved as president of the Neleon Chamber of Commerce, and as a trustee of the St. Andrew's Orphanage and the Methodist Church. He was awarded the M.B.E. in 1919, and wae appointed to the Legislative Council in 1921. I
