DURRANCE WINS TWO EVENTS

Ski jumping such as New Zealanders have never before seen in their own country was staged by members of the American team, when the grand national ski championships were opened &t Ball Ilutt to-day,' Richard Durrance, the American champion juniper, travelled through the air like a swallow to win the jump' with 9d%£t. D. Bradley, America, was second with 89 l-3ft. ~ i-h-ian MacMillan, New Zealand, oti" a smaller jumping platform, finished fourth on the list with a good leap of GlVfcft.

Durrance's record jump is 240 feet, but the jump to-day was designed for the maximum of 100 feet. The in-run was fast and the out-run tricky, with a slight hummock to be overcome. Durrance was outstanding and jumped with superb polish. His flight and that of the Bradley brothers was magnificent.

The results, representing the beet of three jumps, were:—Durrance (America), 95% ft, 1; D! Bradley (America), 80 l-3ft, 2; S. Bradley (America), 82 2-3 ft, 3. Others: —B. MacMillan (New Zealand), 61% ft: J. Laughlin (America), s£>%l't; H. Wigley (New Zealand), 52 l-6ft. The slalom over a steep and difficult course laid out by Durrance alongside of Ball Hut, was run in a light snowstorm this afternoon. Results (combined time for two runs)Durrance, 1.49, 1; J.
