SELECTIONS ANNOUNCED.

Jones, that the following ten returned soldiers not serving in the territorial forces had been selected by ballot for inclusion in the military contingent to represent New Zealand at the Coronation: — Auckland Districts.--Xo. 14/131, James Crichton, V.C., Northboro Road, lakapuna; No. 2.'i42(i, Gilbert John Parkinson, Opotiki Hotel. Opotiki. Wellington Districts.—No. 10/948, Thos. W. Henderson, Tuna, via Stratford; No. 9/ISOB, Stanley George C'onipton, Frasertown, Wairoa. Canterbury Districts.—No. 43430, David William Mather, til, Queen Street. West port; No. <i/(>24. William John Kastgate, Weld Street. Hokitika. Southland Districts.-Charles Barrow, Burrows Street, Bluff; No. 4/91(i. Sinclair R. McLaren. 22, Baldwin Street, i North East Valley. Duncdin. The Minister explained that when the Government decided to dispatch a military contingent to represent New Zealand at the Coronation it was arranged that, among the ten representatives of returned soldiers not serving in territorial forces, one should represent the South African War veterans and another the Maori race. All the appli- ' cations for inclusion had come to Wellington, and a ballot was taken last Friday night, with the result as given. There were present at the ballot representatives of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers' Association, South African War Veterans' Association. Defence Department, Pensions Department, and a representative of the Minister. In the case of the V.C., his name was not submitted to ballot, the rule being that holders of that honour eligible for inclusion would be selected. The selections would be subj jeet to the men passing the final medi- | cal examination. Such examination, j however, would not be as stringent as I that for active service.
