■ ■ (Before Mr. J. W. Poynton, SJd.l BITTEN BEFORE. After the drunks—ten of them—were dealt with in the Police Court the case of Thomas Skelly (44), a man with several aliases, was considered. Accused early lin the week of being idle and disorderly | and having no means of support, Skelly had been remanded to allow of inquiry amongst his relatives. The result of these inquiries was that an uncle had refused to have anything more to do i with the man, as he had already lens him several sums of money which had all gone in drink. Skelly was sentenced to a month in gaol. BAD CHARACTER, The young Chinaman, William Lip Guey, who was remanded on a charge of stealing £19 2/6 given him to pay for the burial of a dead countryman, was called up for sentence, and was given a Tery bad character indeed by the police. Detective Knight said he had known young Guey for several years, and he had never done any good for himself. The young man, whose age was 25, had been employed by the leading Chinese merchants in Auckland, and in every case he had "turned them down." The young man had gone to Sydney, and had' been ! returned to New Zealand' by the police as jan undesirable; also he had lately returned from employment in Cambridge.
