MR JACKMAN AT WHAKAPIRAU.

Mr VV. H. Jackman, one of the candidates for Waitemata,- addressed the electors at Wbakapirau Hall on the 25th inßt.- A very largo number assembled to hear his address. Mr A. Colbeck was called to the chair, and in a few suitable and well chosen remarks introduced the speaker. Mr Jackman spoke for over an hour twd was listened to with rapt attention. He said he was coming oub as an Independent Liberal, and if elected will do his utmosb to benefit bhe North of Auckland in particular. He believed the settlers of bhe North of Auckland had nob bad their fair share of public money in the past, fie justified ih*- ;■■■-. _nb

Government in their action towards the Bank of New Zealand, . avowing that by so doing they had averted national disaster. He strongly advocated the continuance of bhe railway bhrough the North of Auckland, showing clearly bhe disadvantages settlers have to labour under in nob having suitable means of getting their produce to the markets. He believed the North of Auckland was the most suitable place in New Zealand for the growth of all kinds of fruit-, and he thought sebblers should be encouraged bo go in for fruitgrowing by being giving a bonus on fruib exported. Ha also propounded a scheme for dealing wibh the kauri gum industry. Pie thought the Government should pub up large stores in the city, and buy all the gam, selling it to foreign merchants ab fixed rates. By bo doing he thought the price could b3 raised £20 or £30 a ton mora than ib is ab presenb. Ho estimated that £200,000 was now lost to the counbry by wanb of judicial legislabion on bhe gum industry. Mr Jackman answered satisfactorily a number of questions that wero pub to him. On the motion of Mr F. Colbeck, a hearty vote of thanks and full confidence in Mr Jackman as tho representative for bhis constituency, was carried unanimpusly.— (Our correspondent.)
