ENGLISH WINNING HORSES.
Writes our London correspondent:— The engagements of La Fleche nexb year are extremely valuable and should the mare train on (her sister Memoir did not, be ib remembered) she will hold bbc proud position of being the animal who has earned the largeßt amount of money ever known on the turf. At presenb that vantage post belongs to Donovan, whose phenomenal record both ab two and at three years has never beon approached. The following table of horses thab have earned large sums between 2 and 5 years will be found useful for reference. It was compiled by "Boris," and may be accepted as accurate :— '
In this table Gladiateur's French race. are included as well as his English. Another greab horse, which won £20,104 during his career, was Bendigo, the greater portion, however, being gob together after he had commenced his fifth year. The most remarkable two-year-old record ever known was undoubtedly Achievements, whose £10,000 odd was, in those days of small stakes, far more difficult to earn than Donovan's £16,000. [In Australasia, Carbine is the largesb winner, having annexed £29,000 in stakes.]
