SALE OF THE ORETI.
A RESULT OF EXCESSIVE COM
PETITION
Fob some time past the steamer Oreti has been running on the West Coast at a considerable loss, on account of the continuous competition with the Northern Steamship Company find the Jubilee Steamship Company. The trade upon which she was engaged" between • Onehunga, Wanganui, and Northern ports is not sufficient to keep throe steamers running, and the Oreti will probably not be replaced. She has been sold by Messrs T. T. Masefield and other owners to Messrs Day and Company, for £6,000. Mr Day is a Brisbane gentleman at present residing at Onchunga, and he intends to send the Oreti across the water very soon, probably in charge of Ciptain Robertson. The Oreti will take a full cargo, possibly timber from Kaipara, and on arrival at Brisbane she will take up.the coastal trade there.
