FRUITGROWING

The Anftual Provincial Conference under the auspices of the' New ZeaFruitgrowers Federation, held in the Town Hall, on Wednesday, 11th July. Mr R-. S. Kinnaird, Gtago Director, Presided over a full attendance of delegates numbering 22. There was also in attendance Mr T. G. Brash, President of the Federation; Mr Osborne and Mr Parker, General Manager and Assistant General Manager; Mr ABrown, of Nelsonj President of the Fruitgrowers ' Employers Union; Mr J. Osborne, secretary to the 1.M.D.; Members of the Marketing Council and officers of the Department of Agriculture. The conference was officially opened by Mr Henderson, deputy /Mayor of Roxburgh. The chairman then welcomed the delegates and on their behalf extended a cordial welcome to all visitors. Before commencing the business the chairman made reference to the cessation of hostilities in the European theatre of war and asked those present not to be unmindful of those who paid the supreme sacrifice. He also made feeling reference to the passing of Mr W. R. L. /Williams and passed a motion of sympathy with the relatives, which was carried out in the usual manner, all present standing in silence. Mr T. C Brash then addressed the conference along the lines of post war principles and was listened to with very marked attention. The election of delegates to attend the Dominion conference in ' Wellington on August Bth, 9th an d 1 Oth resulted in Messrs G. D.\ Taylor, R. A. Annan, J. H. George arid W : FBennetts being elected. Remits totalling 234 were then .proceeded with and at an opportune time the; chairman called on. Mr. A..Brown to' address' delegates on matters of general interest to irmtgrowersy in connection" with labour problems; General interest was; displayed by all during the debates on the remit? and the Welllington delegates instructed in the matter of voting Afternoon tea was supplied by the Teviot and Ettrick associations and was greatly appreciated. Mr Brash returning thanks to the Associations and the conference closed at approximately 5 p.m. with the customary votes of thanks.
