Very general tegmb will be aroused by the announcement of the nofe unexpected death of Mr A- M. Ollivier, who died at his residence, Opawo, at an early hour this morning. M»" Ollivier, who was the foarth son of the late Mr John Ol'ivier, arrived in Canterbury about J853, aad was ona ot the old-time pupils of Christ's College Grammar School, which he entered in 1862 and quitted in 1865. He early displayed that fondness for cricket and other outdoor eporte which led him to become celebrated a« an athlete. His career as a cricketer was an especially distinguished one. Besides taking a prominent pard in cricketing circles, Mr Ollivier attained considerable distinction as a footballer. He also took as interest in aquatics and general athletics, and was a famous sprinter in bygone years. He had much taste for horticulture, was an enthusiastic grower of roses and other choice flowers, and a successful exhibitor at many of the horticultural shows held in Christchurch He became a Fellow of Christ's College, and was President of the Old College Boys' Association from 1895 till his death, having been re-elected to the position at the last annual meeting on October 14. Mr Ollivier was an accountant by profession, and his ability in that capacity was very marked.
